Italy’s Assocarboni calls for reduced gas dependency as coal imports fall

Italian imports of thermal coal fell 5% on theyear in 2013 to 18 million mt, lagging behind annual rises inother major European importing countries, Assocarboni, theItalian coal industry association, said Friday.The association said coal’s share in Italy’s generation mixremained at 12%, about a third of the European average, andurged the country’s new government to “intervene promptlyin favor of a more balanced electricity mix.”
