Asian acrylonitrile prices were flat week on week at $1,370/mt CFR Far East Asia, $1,340/mt CFR Southeast Asia and $1,330/mt CFR South Asia Tuesday in thin trade. Offers for CFR Far East Asian cargoes were heard at $1,400/mt, similar to last week, with sellers saying they were under no pressure to sell. Buyers remained cautious, with one putting his buy idea for August delivery at $1,300/mt CFR Far East Asia and for prompt June delivery at $1,350/mt. Little buying activity was heard as domestic supply in China was ample. Domestic prices on an ex-works basis were heard in the range of Yuan 9,700-9,800/mt, which equates to $1,315-1,329/mt on an import parity basis. Domestic prices in China were in line with the week before, with one Chinese producer saying he expected prices to fall as new supply came on stream. Local prices “should reach Yuan 9,500/mt, maybe by end of this week or next week,” he said. In plant news, China’s Jilin Petrochemical’s 452,000 mt/year ACN plant restarted its 106,000 mt No. 1 line May 31 and 106,000 mt No. 2 line June 2, a company source said Tuesday. The plant, which has four lines, was shut early last month for maintenance.
