Asian polystyrene markets were mostly higher week on week Wednesday. CFR China general purpose polystyrene was up $10/mt at $1,080/mt, while CFR China high impact polystyrene was $20/mt higher at $1,110/mt. FOB Northeast Asia expandable polystyrene was up $10/mt at $1,089/mt for general purpose grade and at $1,139/mt for flame retardant grade. Meanwhile, CFR Southeast Asia GPPS fell $11/mt to $1,059/mt, pressured by weaker currencies in Southeast Asia. Due to the weaker Malaysian ringgit, offers from the major supplier in Malaysia are lower than other regions, a trader based in South Korea said. Asian styrene monomer rose $17/mt day on day and $31/mt week on week to $931/mt FOB Korea and $954/mt CFR China Wednesday, on the back of emerging demand for stockpiling ahead of Lunar New Year holidays in February. This could have led the ABS and PS markets to trend higher, another market source said. Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene was up $20/mt week on week at $1,160/mt CFR China Wednesday.
