Iran plans to complete 12 stalled olefins, polymers projects by March 2016

London — Iran plans to complete 12 of its long-stalled petrochemicals projects over the next one year, the Mehr News Agency reported Wednesday. The projects, once complete, will have a capacity to manufacture 14 million mt/year of various petrochemicals, Mehr quoted the country’s deputy oil minister Abbas Sheri-Moghaddam as saying. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Iran and the P5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) signing a framework nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Lausanne, last Thursday. Iran hopes to have UN sanctions suspended after a final accord being reached, while the P5+1 envisage their phased lifting. The sanctions have delayed or stalled several Iranian petrochemical projects over the past five years.
