Acrylonitrile spot prices remained flat on the week at $1,300/mt CIF Med, stabilizing after a $60/mt fall the previous week off the back of falling US export prices. US export prices are now at a low not seen since August 2009. The US ACN export price saw a steep $30/mt decline through last week to $1,200/mt FOB USG on slow demand and length in supply, sources said. Falling US export prices continued to place a ceiling on European prices this week, trade sources said. Sources pegged freight between the USG and the Med at $100/mt, capping ACN prices in the Med. However, some seller sources said US price pressure was not as influential a factor across Europe as had been heard. “Cheap material from the US is still placing pressure on Europe but there is not enough of this cheap material to meet demand,” a producer source said. Another producer said US imports had only impacted small segments of their spot business, such as those consumers ideally located near ports to receive imports. Meanwhile, downstream demand was heard strong from numerous sources.
