European acrylonitrile spot prices fell $60/mt on the week to $1,300/mt CIF Med, with low demand and competitive US imports. Seller sources reported demand for contracted material had been unchanged but very little activity had been seen in the spot market. “With demand soft, the propylene increase in not being passed through,” a trade source said. The contract price for feedstock propylene this month had settled at an increase of Eur40/mt to Eur1,030/mt. “Looking at propylene, ACN prices should rise, but looking at demand it is not happening,” another trade source said. Meanwhile, US ACN export prices have continued to decline, falling $15/mt last week to be assessed at a 70-month low of $1,230/mt FOB USG. “US material is strongly competitive,” a trade source said, adding, a sale price of $1,300/mt CIF MED was achievable but “even $1 higher won’t be considered.”
