Northwest European styrene barges loading 5-30 days forward were assessed at $1,509.50/mt FOB ARA Friday, down $7.50/mt on the day from $1,517/mt. Week-on-week, prices rose $125/mt or 9% from $1,384.50/mt last Friday. Market participants attributed the soaring styrene prices to a combination of turnarounds at styrene plants in Europe and vessel delays in the Houston Ship Channel.
