The FOB ARA benchmark achieved cautious gains of $10.50/mt on Friday to bring the week's close to $1,680.50/mt FOB ARA — the highest level since August 7, 2008. On a weekon- week basis, prices rose $22.50/mt and spot values are likely to be buoyed at current high levels into September, market sources claimed. Year-high spot prices were supported by tightness in the prompt market and firm demand, although it was questionable if the the latter would be sustainable with fixed prices so high, traders said, having seen some signs of demand destruction downstream.
