European ethylene prices were marginally up on the week as naphtha values sustained strength. Naphtha was assessed at $992.50/mt CIF NWE Friday, up $10.25/mt on the week. The rise was held in check by supply issues at derivative sites. Ineos declared force majeure on HDPE supplies out of Lavera, France due to a fire on August 31. The capacity of the plant is 240,000 mt/year. Ineos declined to comment. Two other producers Total Petrochemicals and LyondellBasell had last week declared FM on their HDPE plants in Antwerp, Belgian and Plock, Poland respectively.
