Western Canadian drilling revised downward in 2015

Calgary—Drilling activity in Western Canada will take a major hit in 2015, with a 36% and 41% decrease respectively in the number of wells and rigs, an industry association forecast said. Some 6,612 oil and gas wells will be drilled, using a fleet of 203 “active” rigs, the Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors said in its revised forecast last week. This is in contrast with its previous forecast in November, when the association predicted the drilling of 10,354 wells and 370 rigs being active in 2015.
