Washington—The Obama administration is crippling Alaska’s oil and gas industry, mainly by declaring more than 12 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as wilderness and planning to withdraw offshore blocks from future federal lease sales, Alaska’s congressional delegation said Monday. “The Obama administration has declared war on Alaska,” Senator Lisa Murkowski, an Alaska Republican, said at a press conference alongside Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan and Representative Don Young, both Republicans. On Sunday, the US Department of the Interior announced that 12.28 million acres, including the potential oil-rich Coastal Plain, will be designated as wilderness, the top federal protection for public lands.
