Rio de Janeiro—Initial results from well testing at the Carcara subsalt discovery are placing the find among the most-productive seen in Brazil’s offshore frontier, according to independent natural gas producer QGEP. QGEP is one of four companies developing Carcara, which has generated intense interest in the global oil industry since it was first announced in 2012 because of the enormous oil column discovered. The 530-meter oil column found in the Santos Basin’s BM-S-8 block is the largest found so far in the subsalt. The consortium, led by state-led Petrobras, has not yet reached the oil-water barrier that typically marks the bottom of a reservoir.
