Houston—US West Coast refiners have been importing more Colombian crudes of late due to narrowing price spreads, according to a Platts analysis. In particular, prices of heavy, sour Vasconia Blend have been weakening versus its main competitors in the West Coast: Alaska Northern Slope and Ecuadorean Oriente. Vasconia’s premium to Oriente has been narrowing since February, when it averaged $6.99/ barrel. It since dropped to average $2.14/b so far this June.
