Oil ETFs back in spotlight as growth booms

New York-A surge in the size of oil exchange traded fund activity in NYMEX crude futures has renewed an old debate about whether they support or even drive commodity prices higher. Against a backdrop of lower crude prices, investors have poured money into commodity ETFs hoping to benefit from an eventual rebound. As of March 30, one major ETF-the US Oil Fund-owned 57,956 NYMEX May crude contracts, compared with 7,151 front-month NYMEX crude contracts six months prior.
