Oil futures up on record USGC crude runs

New York—NYMEX September crude rose $1.59 to settle at $96.07/barrel upon expiry Wednesday, after US Energy Information Administration oil data showed crude runs at US refineries hit 8.74 million b/d last week, highest on record. October crude finished 59 cents higher at $93.45/b. This widened the prompt backwardation to $2.62/b, after touching nearly $3/b just prior to the settle.
