Kurdistan’s new wave of oil exports in the making

Dubai-The next wave of light crude exports from Iraqi Kurdistan could come from a cres- cent of fields to the north and west of the region’s capital, Erbil. Although smaller than the main fields already in production in the semi-autonomous region of northeastern Iraq, all are close to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s exist- ing export pipeline system as well as to the region’s biggest refinery. Development of some of these fields has already started, with output expected to ramp up quickly after a landmark accord on oil exports was struck between Erbil and Baghdad this week.
