Philadelphia Energy Solutions’ ramp up in its Bakken crude runs at its 335,000 b/d East Coast refining complex has reached the point that it is the biggest US consumer of the crude grade, a company executive said Wednesday. “We can take 25% of total Bakken production,” John Pickering, senior vice president of refining and engineering for Philadelphia Energy Solutions, said at a Platts refined products conference in Houston. “We’re currently the largest single consumer of Bakken in the US.” He noted earlier in a panel discussion that US Bakken crude production is approaching about 1 million b/d, compared to around 300,000 b/d when PES was starting as a joint venture a few years ago.
