Cenovus to boost Alberta output by 100,000 b/d

Calgary—Cenovus Energy will start up six new phases at its oil sands projects in Alberta by 2017, boosting the company’s output by 100,000 b/d or 80%, CEO Brian Ferguson said Wednesday. Last quarter, the company produced some 125,000 b/d primarily from its two in-situ facilities, Christina Lake and Foster Creek. “We have a 16-year track record of SAGD [steam-assisted gravity drainage] operations, with a strong culture of execution, innovation and refinery integration,” he said on a webcast of the 2014 Barclays Energy Conference in New York.
