Washington—The voluntary safety measures the US railroad industry announced Friday to prevent crude-by-rail accidents, including lower speed limits in urban areas and the use of rail traffic routing technology, likely will not drastically impact oil deliveries, but will probably raise some operating costs that could be passed to consumers, according to industry insiders. The steps, unveiled under an agreement reached with the US Department of Transportation, could result in some rail network slowing and rerouting of crude oil deliveries, experts said.
