Colombia slams Nicaraguan territory claim

Quito, Ecuador—The Colombian government is denouncing Nicaragua’s claim asserting its rights over marine territory extending beyond its 200-mile limit, as well as the ocean area ceded to it by the court in a controversial November decision. If it wins the case filed Monday with the with the International Court of Justice at The Hague in The Netherlands, Nicaragua would have jurisdiction over Caribbean Sea territory thought to be rich in natural gas deposits— which is currently under Colombian, Panamanian, Costa Rican and Jamaican control.
