UK's Ophir targets oil in Tanzania's gas-rich offshore

Cape Town-Africa-focused explorer Ophir Energy plans to test an oil and gas prospect in its East Pande license offshore Tanzania next year, which it hopes could produce the gas-rich country's first oil discovery, the com- pany's chief operating officer, Mike Fischer, said Friday. The Pande prospect is expected to hold a gas potential of 2 Tcf or some 380 million barrels of oil and is scheduled to be drilled around mid-2014, Fischer told an industry event in Cape Town.
