IGas sees huge UK shale gas resources

London—The UK’s IGas Energy has published new estimates of the gas in place at its northwest English shale licenses, estimating a most likely volume of 102 Tcf (around 2.9 trillion cubic meters)—a huge increase over previous estimates. Even at relatively low recovery rates, such a volume would have major implications for the UK, not least because it only represents a small percentage of the shale gas licenses across the country. In a statement, IGas said the low end of the estimate was 15.1 Tcf and the high end of the range was 172.3 Tcf.
