PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forest resource investigation method and device for avoiding the danger of a life under investigation without making it necessary to carry out job site investigation, and for reducing the costs and processing time of data processing, and for enabling even a beginner to carry out the investigation of whole forests by an equivalent standard in a short time and with high precision, and for estimating biomass storage quantity with a small error rate of forest book storage quantity to the real storage quantity.;SOLUTION: This forest resource investigation method includes: carrying out forest type classification based on a three-dimensional aerial picture; measuring the area of each forest type; selecting a standard site for every forest type; identifying a tree type in the standard site; measuring the tree height of a tree in the standard site; calculating a breast height diameter by substituting the tree height into a predetermined tree height and breast height diameter regression formula; calculating a standing tree trunk timber product per unit area from the tree height and breast height diameter; calculating the standing tree trunk timber product within the tree type by multiplying the standing tree trunk timber product per unit area by the tree type area; and calculating the biomass storage quantity of the tree type by multiplying the calculated standing tree trunk timber product of every tree type by biomass coefficients.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
