Indonesia targets 1.5 Bcf/d of CBM production by 2023

Bali, Indonesia—Indonesia is targeting to produce 100,000 Mcf/d of coalbed methane by 2015 and boost production to 500,000 Mcf/d by 2020 and 1.5 Bcf/d by 2023 as it tries to increase gas production in an effort to lower reliance on heavily subsidized oil products that are a burden on the government’s budget. Indonesia is believed to have CBM reserves totaling 453 Tcf across 11 basins, much higher than its natural gas reserves of 190 Tcf, R. Priyono, chairman of upstream regulator BPMigas, said October 10 at the GASEX conference in Bali.
