New Zealand plans to offer 25 blocks for exploration

Sydney—New Zealand plans to offer 25 oiland gas exploration blocks for competitivebidding in 2012, and continue offering 20-30areas on an annual basis in coming years,according to proposals detailed by New Zea-land Petroleum & Minerals, a branch of theMinistry of Economic Development.The blocks to be offered this year cover40,285 sq km (15,554 sq miles) of offshoreseabed and 5,704 sq km of land in Waikato,Taranaki, Tasman, the West Coast and South-land, the department said on its website.
