Washington-Growing tensions between the West and Iran and trading by speculators, not a lack of US energy exploration, are the biggest reasons for the recent increase in gasoline pric- es, President Barack Obama said February 23. "Just like last year, the biggest thing that's causing the price of oil to rise right now is instability in the Middle East-this time around Iran," Obama said in a Miami speech defending his energy policy. "When uncer- tainty increases, speculative trading on Wall Street can drive up prices even more."
