Vancouver—The Canadian government is raising the monetary threshold for reviews of foreigninitiated takeovers of Canadian companies at a time when Asian state-owned enterprises are accumulating hydrocarbon assets and expressing interest in possible outright ownership. “Canada has a strong investment climate and these targeted changes will ensure that our foreign investment review process continues to encourage investment and spur economic growth,” Industry Minister Christian Paradis said late May 25.
