Talisman to sell 49% of UK North Sea assets to Sinopec

London—Canada’s Talisman Energy has reduced its exposure to the UK North Sea with an agreement to sell a 49% stake in its UK North Sea business, Talisman Energy (UK) Limited, to China’s Sinopec for $1.5 billion, Talisman said July 23. The announcement came the same day as another Chinese company, CNOOC, announced plans to acquire the major UK Buzzard oil field through an agreed $15 billion takeover of Canada’s Nexen (see story page 1).
