Houston—The US rig count was 1,974 for the week ended May 11, up by 9 from the prior week, according to Baker Hughes. The latest count includes 1,929 land and 45 offshore, with 598 assigned to gas, 1,372 to oil and 4 to miscellaneous drilling. The rigs were drilling 559 vertical, 228 directional and 1,187 horizontal wells.
