London-A surprise tax hike for the UK oil industry last week sparked howls of disap- proval by North Sea operators beset by rising costs and dwindling rewards from the declin- ing region. But the average tax burden in the UK's North Sea waters remains lower than Den- mark or Norway and the move is expected to have only a marginal impact on future produc- tion volumes, according to analysts.
