NYMEX June crude plunges 9% to $99.80

New York-New York Mercantile Exchange June crude futures plummeted May 5, falling 8.64% in a widespread commodity selloff as long liquidation, fanned by inflationary and US economic growth concerns, sent the contract below $100/b for the first time in nearly two months. June crude settled at its lowest level since March 16 at $99.80/b, down $9.44, while ICE June Brent settled at $110.80/b, down $10.39, or 8.75%. It was the biggest one-day drop in NYMEX crude futures since September 29, 2008, when prices fell $10.52. Brent futures had its largest one-day drop since January 18, 1991, during the launch of the first Gulf War.
