Qatar secures new $3 billion LNG export deal to UK

London-Qatar has strengthened further its influence over the UK gas supply sector by securing a GBP2 billion ($3 billion) deal with UK utility Centrica for the supply of 2.4 million mt/year of LNG to the UK's Isle of Grain LNG import terminal in southeast England. Qatar in 2010 supplied the UK with 15% of its total gas demand of around 90 billion cubic meters/year, and by 2025 LNG, including from Qatar, is expected to account for around 50% of UK total supply.
