Australia gets Labor minority government

Sydney-Australia is set to have a minority government led by incumbent Labor Party Prime Minister Julia Gillard, after she was given the formal backing September 7 of two independent members of parliament, 17 days after a general election failed to produce a clear winner. The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association immediately sought assurances regarding the new government’s position on a number of policies, including proposed changes to the oil and gas industry’s fiscal regime, climate change and national regulation.
