South Korean STX buys Encana Canadian gas field

Seoul-South Korea’s STX Energy has acquired the Maxhamish gas field in northwestern Canada from Calgary-based Encana Corporation for C$152 million ($144.7 million), the company said August 30. Maxhamish, in northeastern British Columbia, is estimated to hold 120 Bcf of natural gas, equivalent to 20.83 million barrels of oil, and currently produces 20,000 Mcf/day, the company said in a statement. The reserves are enough to meet South Korea’s natural gas requirements for around 37 days, STX added.
