Korea's LNG demand expected to grow by 20%

Seoul-South Korea's LNG demand is set to grow this year and in 2011, led by strong consumption in the power sector, but oil demand growth is expected to slow as the country cuts its reliance on oil as a source of energy, the country's state-run think tank said in a report November 1. South Korea's LNG consumption is forecast to grow 19.9% to 29.8 million mt this year and a further 10.3% to 32.9 mil- lion mt in 2011, the Korea Energy Econom- ics Institute said. It attributed the growth to strong consumption by power utilities, which account for 30% of total LNG demand in South Korea.
