CNPC begins South Pars phase 11 project

Tehran-China’s state-owned CNPC has started the development of phase 11 of the giant South Pars natural gas field in Iran, a contract that was originally being negotiated with France’s Total, the head of Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company said October 16. CNPC signed a $5 billion contract with Iran in early June 2009 for the development of South Pars phase 11, initially planned as an LNG project, although the downstream portion of the deal has since been dropped.
