New York State to tighten heating oil sulfur regulations in 2012

New York-New York Governor David Paterson has signed into law new, tighter state heating oil sulfur rules beginning with the 2012-2013 heating season. The law, signed July 20, will cut heating oil sulfur to 15 parts per million, down from current average levels of 2,000 ppm. Under prior New York state regulations, heating oil could have sulfur content as high as 10,000 ppm, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
