EIA reports first gas storage pull of US heating season

New York-The US Energy Information Administration on December 10 reported the first natural gas storage withdrawal of the heating season, a 64 Bcf pull for the week ended December 4 that lowered stocks to 3.773 Tcf. The drawdown was above consensus expectations of 44 Bcf to 48 Bcf, and the New York Mercantile Exchange January gas futures contract shot higher after the report's release and settled up 40 cents at $5.298/MMBtu. But the surpluses over last year's level and the five-year average both expanded, dampening some of the bulls' enthusiasm.
