Lagos-Nigeria's Parliament November 6 called on the government to privatize the country's four ailing oil refineries and boost local supply before proceeding with plans to deregulate the downstream oil sector and end fuel subsidies. The Parliament's Committee on Downstream Petroleum said that while Parliament backed the controversial policy of deregulation, the government must ensure that it addresses the problem of supply and cuts imports, which cost the government a considerable amount of money to subsidize.
