US products deliveries make big drop: API

Houston-US petroleum products deliveries fell 5% in the first 10 months of 2008, the largest percentage drop since the early 1980s, led by declines in diesel fuel used primarily for commercial operations, according to October data released by the American Petroleum Institute November 19. Total product deliveries fell 4% in October despite a drop in prices. To explain that, API cited data from the Institute for Supply Management that reflects "a rapidly contracting manufacturing sector." Those figures from the ISM's Purchasing Manager Index gave October the lowest rating since 1982 with the index down 4.6% from September.
