Alberta plans to offer new transitional royalty rates

Houston-The Canadian province of Alberta November 19 said it would offer a new, transitional royalty rate for oil and gas wells drilled through 2013 as a means to stimulate drilling. Alberta Energy said in a statement that companies that drill qualifying wells between 2009 and 2013 will be given a one-time option of selecting a transitional royalty rate instead of the New Royalty Framework. The New Royalty Framework is set to take effect January 1, 2009, for all existing oil and gas wells.
