The Government of Alberta Responds to the Global Economic Crisis and the Slowdown of Oil and Gas Drilling in the Province. How fast things change! It wasn't very long ago that world oil prices were at a record high. Strange as it may seem, at the same time as the Alberta oil sands were booming because of high oil prices, thousands of rig workers were off the job in western Canada because of a major slump in natural gas exploration. That slump was primarily caused by natural gas prices that were far below record levels, and haven't been seen for quite some time.
