China’s oil throughput dips to 14-month low

Hong Kong—An accelerating downturn in the economy and a domestic oil products supply glut prompted refiners in China to trim their crude throughput volumes to a 14-month low in November, according to preliminary figures from the National Bureau of Statistics. Crude throughput reached 27.3 million mt (6.67 million b/d) in November, marking an 8.5% slump from October’s 29.8 million mt (7.05 million b/d) and down 2.3% from a year ago. China has not seen such low crude throughput since September 2007, when refineries in the country processed a total of 26.9 million mt (6.58 million b/d).
