Japan's October crude imports rise by 2.6%

Tokyo-Japan imported 19.869 million kilo-liters (4.03 million b/d) of crude in October, up 2.6% from 19.365 million kl in the same month of 2007, the Ministry of Finance said November 20. Japan's crude import price on a CIF basis averaged Yen 67,074/kiloliter ($102.66/bar-rel) in October, down 18.4% from Yen 82,224/kl in September on the back of weakening Western crude benchmarks. The price for the month was 20.8% higher than the average of Yen 55,508/kl in October 2007 despite a stronger yen compared with the US dollar. The dollar averaged Yen 103.88 in October, compared with Yen 115.96 in the same month of 2007.
