Japan's Tohoku Electric to buy Tangguh LNG

Tokyo-Japanese utility Tohoku Electric has signed a heads of agreement with Indonesian state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and BP to buy LNG from Indonesia's Tangguh project, Tohoku Electric said in a statement November 28. Under the agreement, the BP-led Tangguh project would supply Tohoku Electric with 120,000 mt/year of LNG for 15 years from 2010, the utility said. Tohoku Electric, Pertamina and BP will continue discussions to finalize a full sales and purchase agreement, the company added. Tohoku Electric has been in discussions with Indonesia about the possibility of contracting two LNG cargoes a year from the Tangguh project in Indonesia's far eastern Papua province, Platts reported in March. Each LNG cargo is about 60,000 mt.
