Cepsa to spend 1.45-bil to update refineries

London-Spain's Cepsa Sep 26 outlined plans to upgrade a number of its refineries, saying it would invest Eurl.2-bil (1.45-bil) in the sector to increase its middle distillate production capacity by 2.7-mil mt/yr. Cepsa, Spain's second-largest refiner after Repsol YPF, said a number of new units would come on stream at its refineries between 2008 and 2009.The company plans to add a new hydroc-racker to its Huelva refinery in the southwest of the country to produce more gasoil and kerosene. Work is already under way to build a light naphtha reformer at the same refinery to produce 220,000mt/yr of benzene and smaller volumes of hydrogen.
