US SEC steps up investigation into Cheniere Energy

Washington-The US Securities and Exchange Commission has issued a formal order and begun a non-public investigation into "actions and communications" by Cheniere Energy,its current or former directors,and employees in connection with its "agreements and negotiations with Chevron USA," its December 2004 stock offering,and trading in the company's securities,Cheniere disclosed in a quarterly filing with federal regulators.Houston's Cheniere,which is developing several LNG import terminals along the Gulf Coast,earlier disclosed the SEC had notified it in December that it was conducting an informal inquiry into the issues.Cheniere said the agency notified it Aug 9 it had issued a formal order launching a "factual investigation."
