Tankers: Plenty of tonnage puts Med rates under pressure

Rates in the Mediterranean were coming under pressure Tuesday as fewer cargoes were shown while there was healthy tonnage availability, sources reported. A number of fixtures were reported at w77.5 on Aframaxes for cross-Med voyage and around w82.5 out of the Black Sea. Some sources were still inclined to peg the Black Sea rates around w85, although no recent fixtures had been reported at that level. On the Suezmaxes, there was also a downward pressure amid not many new cargoes. There have been unconfirmed reports of w77.5 on subs for cross-Med, although some sources were still pegging the rate higher in line with the stronger sentiment in West Africa.
