Irving beginning upgrade to Saint John

New York- Irving Oil said September 11 it is beginning a C$220 million ($209 million) upgrade of its 300,000 b/d refinery in Saint John, New Brunswick, to improve the plant's yield of higher grade fuels. The fuels, such as ultra-low sulfur gasoline, will be marketed in Atlantic Canada and the US Northeast, Irving said in a statement. Primary work entails upgrading the refinery's residue fluid catalytic cracking unit and gasoline desulphurization unit, the company said. General maintenance on other units will result in an overall reduction in flaring and fugitive emissions, Irving added.
