Mexico's KMZ output record offsets Cantarell decline

Mexico City-Output from Mexico's leading crude-producing complex, Ku-Maloob-Zaap (KMZ) in the Sound of Campeche, reached a record 835,000 b/d in September, a 20% increase on the same month of last year, the energy ministry has reported. KMZ is Mexico's main hope of sustaining the current 2.6 million b/d output of state Pemex. Senior officials at Pemex have said that KMZ is close to its peak, though they remain unsure as to when it might go into decline. In February of this year, KMZ overtook the neighboring Cantarell complex as the mainstay of Mexico's crude production. Cantarell peaked at 2.2 million b/d almost six years ago. in September, it produced 642,000 b/d, a drop of 34% compared with the same month of last year.
